Planning

We begin by understanding our customer's business and clients so that we can correctly organize the website content and target the appropriate market.

We plan for expansion, additions and options our client may want to add in the future. We then create a detailed "Statement of Work" and give a firm estimate for the project.

Working with you, we plan the "look" for the web site. We use Color Wheel Pro, a program that allows you to see color theory in action: you can create harmonious color schemes and preview them on real-world examples. Together, we choose a pleasing format and color scheme that will appeal to your customers.

We spend a part of each day studying the lastest trends in web design; color theory, eye-tracking research, search engine optimization, navigation techniques, etc.

Programming

Designing a web site is completely different than working in any other medium.

Web sites appear differently in every browser. Different rules apply to IE, Netscape, AOL, and even to different versions of those browsers!

Window size and monitor resolutions vary greatly between site visitors as does monitor calibration which can make a site that looks beautiful on one monitor unreadable on another.

While we design, we test our sites in many different browsers and on different platforms. And, we choose color combinations that we know will be easy to read even on improperly calibrated monitors.

We create well-crafted HTML code with the proper tags and with the content positioned correctly in the file to achieve top search engine rankings. This is unfortunately not something that canned software can produce.

This isn't paper.

We don't design websites that look like a piece of paper glued to your screen (illustrations on left). These sites look very cramped at high resolutions.

We do create flexible designs that float and fill the viewers window.

A flexible web site design makes additions of new content, photos, text, and special announcements easy to add without disturbing the balance of the page.

Your web site must change easily with your business.

The Do It Yourself Maintenance option may be included in the web design planning phase allowing you to edit certain pages or areas of the web site.

Although we now use one of the top site editing software products, we have coded HTML for many years and always verify that this software produces valid code. We run specialized software to validate our HTML code to insure viewers will see the site as intended.

Installation

Once the website is created and throughly tested, we install it the hosting service where it comes to life.

We will set up your web site's hosting account with email addresses, email forwarding, the web site and any additional domain names. We install search functions, form processing, polls, refer a friend... all the services you need to make your website useful.

Then, we throughly test and validate all the pages and functions of your site again.

(Note: if you choose a hosting account where detailed, correct documentation about the system is not available and technical support is not immediately available, any additional time required to install your site will be billable to you.

As long as the ISP you choose provides the services we need and helps protect the copyright to materials used in the site, your web site can be installed anywhere. )

Statistics

We use statistical reporting software that can be tailored to your web site so that we can report accurate information about site visitors, referrals and pages visited.

We track paid advertising, links from directory sites and search engines.

By following the trends in site traffic and paths of visitors with these reports, we can plan upgrades to the web site to improve rankings in search engines and to help direct visitors to the important details of your site.

In some cases these reports have altered our clients businesses. Within the reports we discovered a service or product used in a great many searches that our client either did not sell, or sold only in a limited way.

Tailored reporting is optional, and is now the only way to get an accurate report of website visitors and their paths through the site. Although site statistics are available free from the hosting company, these statistics are not reliable and are of very limited use.
